Known as Junior bagpipe bands in North America, and known in the UK as Juvenile bagpipe bands, youth oriented Scottish music programs
traditionally for bagpipe and drum are more and more difficult to find. The Sir James McDonald pipe band is located in Portland Oregon.
This youth program is focused upon promoting excellence in the Scottish musical arts. The instructors informally call it the kids pipe band and
support the effort by playing with the pipers and drummers on occassion in addition to donating their weekly band instruction time.

Perpetuating the music of the great Highland bagpipe and drums through Oregon's award-winning band exclusively for youth musicians
JOIN
US for a learning program committed to musical excellence. We believe that good musicianship is the foundation
for fun and for lifelong appreciation of bagpipe band music.
Since 1993 the band program has focused only on youth pipers and drummers, enjoying success in competition and other
performance settings. The Sir James McDonald Pipe Band is the only Oregon band ever to place at the World Pipe Band Championships
in Scotland, winning prizes in two of their three trips to the Championships.
The band is a tax-exempt "501(c)(3)" organization. Paid performances and tax-deductible
supporter contributions help to fund the musicians’ travel to competitions, professional instruction, uniforms and equipment.
We welcome beginners between the ages of 8 and 15 and all pipers and drummers up to age 18. To schedule a visit to an upcoming
band practice, please contact us at 503-774-5162 or email us today.
